Youthlink: Who is Dre Blunt?

Dre Blunt: “I am a hardworking dancehall artiste who just wants his fair opportunity to shine. It’s been a long road so far but with the past competitions that I have been involved in, I would have to say that it has helped me to be more patient and persistent”

YL: The name Dre Blunt, what does it symbolize?

DB: “I like to speak my mind that where the ‘Blunt’ part came in and ‘Dre’ is apart of my real name Andre.  When I decided to change my name from Norshous, the name Dre Blunt came to me and it has stuck ever since”.

YL:  You have competed in the Magnum King and Queen of Dancehall and the Tastee Talent Trail, what was the experience been like for you?

DB: “Well to be honest it has been a great experience so far. The Tastee Talent Trail competition means a lot to me because it is the furthest I have ever reached out of hundreds of contestants. I came third so that goes a far way. Being in the competition taught me how to be more professional and more persons know me now than when I first entered the competition so it is a honour to be placed third”.
YL:  Looking back at those experiences of competing what have you learnt?

DB: “Definitely is has built my character, it has even taught me how to be a better role model because sometimes when I go out in the streets little kids will come up to me and sing some of my songs (lol). I have really learnt how to be a better person”.

YL: If you had an opportunity to learn how to play an instrument, what would it be and why?

DB: It would have to be the drums.  Because I think out of all the instruments the drums are more hardcore and seeing that I my thing is dancehall it is just a natural pair”.

YL: What is next for Dre Blunt?
DB: “To step up my writing skills and try to record my new single ‘Phone Number’. I performed that song before and the public loved it so I my intention is to get it recorded as a single. Persons may be familiar with my songs such as Mi Nuh Have It, New Tune among others so I just want to turn it up a notch and continue putting out good music that will hopefully make me a successful entertainer”

YL: Which artiste (s), if given the opportunity, would you like to collaborate with locally?
DB: I would love to work with Shaggy on a record. Shaggy is a diamond selling musician who has raised the bar for dancehall music whatever he puts out is quality and is heard by everyone. Secondly, Vybz Kartel because he is one of the most creative artiste of this era.
