Taking it to the next level


Dre Blunt is intent on capitalizing on the exposure he received during the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall despite not making to the next round.

"I mean honestly, I am really disappointed in not making it pass the first round but this is not going to stop me and my efforts to making a huge impact on Jamaica through music. It is through disappointments where one can really appreciate great success so this is just a stepping stone to get to the next level" a humbled Dre Blunt explained.
He added that through Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, he has been able to network with various producers and musicians and, he hopes that will translate into a positive outcome. Dre Blunt fans can expect to hear his remix to Mi Nuh Have It on radio soon as he gets ready to hit the studio once more.

The journey has just begun


With a magnificent performance to start the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall live show in Kingston on Saturday, Dre Blunt believes the journey has just begun and intends to continue the momentum throughout the competition.

"We are campaigning hard to get the votes and to boost my presence out there in the street and we have been getting good responses so far" a humbled Dre Blunt noted.

Performing the remix to his hit Mi Nuh Have It this upcoming dancehall artiste showcased his versatility when he told the audience on Saturday that Mi Have It song which had the crowd in a frenzy.

International dancehall artiste Konshens endorsed his performance on Saturday noting that this young dancehall act came prepared to deliver.
"You come fi di show my yute, yu performance sell off we can see that yu come fi di show" Konshens concluded. 
Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall is filmed live on Saturdays at the Weekendz Bistro and Bar in Kingston on TVJ. 
The objective of Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall is to unearth and showcase authentic Jamaican dancehall talent. The producers and cast have undertaken the task of moulding the contestants into professionals, giving them the advice necessary to tackle the dancehall stage and the music in general. The voted King and Queen of Dancehall will be given the tools with which to construct a viable career as dancehall artistes.

Dre Blunt was MAG-NIFICENT!

Whether it was lyrics, style and his ability to entertain the crowd, Dre Blunt outshone his competitors on the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall during Saturday’s live show.

Performing the remix to his hit Mi Nuh Have It this upcoming dancehall artiste showcased his versatility when he told the audience that Mi Have It while extending monetary kindness by throwing a few Jamaican dollars in the crowd.
Sporting his signature sunglasses and black outfit paired with a single glove on his hand, Dre Blunt spoke his mind as the ladies gave their approval to Mi Have It song that was produced by his record label Billboard Record.
This Kingston-based act injected life into the audience as he showed why he is ready to become the next winner in the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall contest throughout his energy-packed performance.

Although his original song Mi Nuh Have It is increasing in popularity on local, regional and international airwaves, Dre Blunt thought it was important to display his lyrical wit and as such, the remix was the best fit for the Magnum live show.

It was not only the audience who approved of his performance the judges liked it too.

According to Miss Kitty "your performance was very entertaining and image is everything also. You came and delivered tonight. You have always been open to criticism and tonight it has paid off, my yute, yu swag tun up".

International dancehall artiste Konshens expressed similar sentiments adding that as a young act in the business Dre Blunt came prepared to deliver and did just that.

Billboard Records...where hits are made!

In a bid to remain relevant and positive in the music industry, the chief executive officer of Rob Dem Records, Andre Dre Blunt Lee have decided to change the record company's name to Billboard Records.

The move Dre Blunt explained that "to pave the way for what we intend to achieve which are hits that will be on the billboard charts. Thus, the name change to Billboard Records. The previous name, Rob Dem Records had a negative connotative attached to it and that's not what we are trying to promote".

While the name change is significant the young entrepreneur, who is also a musician, revealed that it has not changed the core values of the type of music they will continue to produce for music lovers.

"Lyrics, we have that -style, swagger and hot beats, we have that too. So the public can just expect to hear good musical content coming from the camp and with artiste such as Hurricane and myself we are definitely here to put our stamp on this music called dancehall" Dre Blunt noted.

Upcoming Dre Blunt mixed tape

In a bid to ensure that his voice remains relevant within the music industry, upcoming dancehall act Dre Blunt is pressing for the March 31st deadline to release his highly anticipated mixed tape dubbed Billboard Music.

"We are looking at the end of March to release the mixed tape. Persons can look for the popular single 'Mi Nuh Have It' to be on there, we will also have 'Safe Sex', 'Lhow yu Daughter' and 'Beggy Beggy' on it" Dre Blunt revealed.

With the increased popularity of his hit 'Mi Nuh Have It' the artiste has been motivated to create a music video, something he noted, is currently being pursued.

Among the business changes that Dre Blunt and his team has made, is that of the name of his entertainment company. The name has changed from Rob Dem Records to Billboard Entertainment.

The move he clarified was "to ensure that when we are introduced to the world, a negative picture is not painted, so we thought Billboard Entertainment is something we decided on and it is line with what we want to achieve, which is having a Billboard hit some day".

Meanwhile, the persistent entertainer has beefed up his marketing campaign for his participation in the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall.

So, far he has performed at the Rockfort Vocational Training Centre (where he once attended) and Dre Blunt is currently making preparations to perform in several high schools in Kingston in a bid to cement in the minds of the public that he is the dancehall act to vote for come February 13, 2010.

From having a 'sick' state of mind with his lyrics to speaking bluntly, upcoming dancehall artiste Dre Blunt formerly known as Norshous continues to prove that he has lyrical wit and aptitude, assests which are needed to stand out in the music business.

The 24-year-old father to one, Andre Lee who hails from Rockfort in Kingston said the decision to change his popular stage name Norshous to Dre Blunt was based on marketing reasons.

"I felt like each time I introduced myself I always had to justify the rationale behind the name, so for marketing reasons and what we are pursuing musically for this year and beyond, myself and my team decided to change the name," he said.

With his song Mi Nuh Have It which propelled him to success and has earned him heavy rotation on the radio, Dre Blunt is seeking to elevate his musical skills for this year and make an even bigger impact that is needed to survive in one of Jamaica's most competitive industries.

In order to appreciate real success, "there has to be great disappointment and I know what that feels like, as my efforts to make a huge impact in the music business is marred by limited resources and trying to find that hit song that will really stick in the minds of everyone," he confessed.

He however contends that the saturation of the dancehall industry has somewhat impacted on his ability to break through. "A mean, most of the artiste who a get a buss nowadays, if you notice are ringtone-type of artiste without any real lyrical content, so with that I hope to use my lyrical wit to cement my position in dancehall," he added.

Nevertheless, he remains confident in his production team and his ability to execute his musical content for the public to enjoy. In the year of great possibilities as he described, the artiste, formerly referred to as Norshous, is intent on letting the public know who he is and what he can do.

Dre Blunt, dancehall's future!

Dancehall has never experience this shock wave of vibrancy and intellect until Andre Lee more popularly known as Dre Blunt came in the music industry.

With a knack for entertaining and his persistence to produce quality music that can be digested locally and internationally, Dre Blunt has carved his place in one of the world’s most competitive industries, music. One should not mistake his handsome features for lack of talent, just appearance, but Dre Blunt has canvassed immense street credibility with his sharp lyrical wit and metaphoric balance which keeps the crowd listening.

Music was never considered a past time activity for this talented 24 year-old deejay from Rockfort, Kingston. It was always seen as a way to creative expression and a viable business opportunity while honing the skills necessary to propel the music of dancehall to new heights.

As a matter of fact, Dre Blunt was introduced to the music business at 15 years old but was then called Norshous, a name he acquired from a fellow deejay Attaman. The name Norshous meant his “sick” flow and style. However, for marketing reasons it was changed to Dre Blunt in order to showcase his forthright approach to music.

He considers Beenie Man, Bounty Killa and Bob Marley to be his greatest influence, who has been pioneers for the Jamaican music and for bringing to the world.

With singles such as “Yardie, Yardie”, “Mi Nuh Have It” and “Low Mi” Dre Blunt continues to receive heavy rotations on local and international radio stations such as Zip FM, News Talk 93 FM and Fame FM in Jamaica and Hot104, Vibe98.9 of Cayman, Vibe105.3, Choice FM and Big City Radio in Boston.

“Mi Nuh Have It” and “Low Mi” have managed to become popular fixtures on the airwaves and at stage shows. Dre Blunt has spoken bluntly on over 12 interviews both in studio and over the phone within a year, and after doing his first live performance in New Hampshire in December of 2007. Locally, he has been featured in many of the major tabloids including X-News and the Jamaica Star. Dre Blunt has participated in the immensely popular Digicel Rising Stars show which draws over 1 million viewers in Jamaica.


In addition, this year he has been featured in Magnum Kings & Queens (a hardcore dancehall competition which is on the probe to find the next big dancehall acts). He, unlike many other artistes has taken the initiative to promote himself and his work. This is just another testament to the hard work and dedication that Dre Blunt puts into his music. Not to be outdone this youngster has his own label, Rob Dem Recordz (R.D.R.), which started in 2007 and has attracted different upcoming artistes, including Hurricane.
